Mischa Kuball as part of the Sammlung Weimar

2026/2/22 - 2026/4/26 I ACC Galerie, Weimar /DE

What would a collection about Weimar itself look like? A collection whose works not only represent the city, but also reveal its unevenness, double meanings, and slants—with all its places, people, myths, and stereotypes.

As an “invisible collection” – in reference to Stefan Zweig – it remains a figment of the imagination. And yet its contents could have been conceived long ago: numerous artistic works from past decades paint a multi-layered, sensual, sometimes disarming picture of a city caught between cosmopolitan aspirations and provincial narrow-mindedness.

The group exhibition of the same name on the idea of a “Weimar Collection” brings these perspectives together and understands collecting as a conscious act of cultural self-assurance and as an opportunity not only to preserve what is one's own, but also to reflect on it critically. Part of the exhibition is Mischa Kuball's work sprach platz sprache (for Weimar) from 1999.
