Mischa Kuball's five planets on display at Museum Folkwang until January 11

Exhibition ends: Thursday, January 11, 2026 I Museum Folkwang, Essen /DE

After a three-year run at the Museum Folkwang, Mischa Kuball's installation five planets is being moved to the museum's storage facility for the time being. The work can still be viewed in the museum's collection until January 11.

In five planets (2016), Mischa Kuball projects the names of the five planets Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Saturn, and Venus onto rotating disco balls. The reflected rays of light wander incessantly across the walls and only reveal the space upon closer inspection. Language, light, and architecture combine to create a multi-layered perceptual experience in which associations with dance, music, and trance resonate alongside moments of irritation. Through its multiplying reflections, five planets simultaneously refers to the infinity and elusiveness of the universe.

We would like to thank the entire team at Museum Folkwang, Peter Gorschlüter, Anna Fricke, and Anka Grosser for their wonderful collaboration.
