Out now: Exhibition catalog for NEWTON | GOETHE | GALILEO

As part of Mischa Kuball’s recent exhibition NEWTON | GOETHE | GALILEO at the Casa di Goethe in Rome, an exhibition catalog has been published by Magonza Verlag.

The catalog documents the exhibition through photographs of the installations and includes two essays that explore the connections between contemporary art, the history of science, and color theory. Gregor H. Lersch examines the debate between Goethe and Newton on color theory and situates the exhibition project within Mischa Kuball’s artistic practice.

In his essay “Galileo and the Interplay of Light and Dirt,” art historian Horst Bredekamp explores the role of light and the impurities of matter in Galileo’s observations. Bredekamp demonstrates how it was precisely the supposedly impure or imperfect that contributed to the emergence of a new scientific worldview.

The catalog includes both German and Italian versions of the texts.
